Dogecoin (DOGE) is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency launched in 2013 as an open and accessible digital payment network. Inspired by the popular Doge meme, Dogecoin developed into an independent blockchain with its own network, wallet infrastructure, and native digital asset. Dogecoin operates using a Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism based on the Scrypt hashing algorithm. Miners use computational resources to validate transactions, produce new blocks, and maintain the security of the network. The blockchain records transactions on a public ledger that can be independently verified by network participants. DOGE is primarily designed for transferring value between users. Its relatively simple network structure and low transaction costs make it suitable for peer-to-peer payments, tipping, transfers, and other transactions where users need to move digital value between wallets. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a fixed maximum supply, Dogecoin does not have a predetermined maximum supply. New DOGE is continuously issued through block rewards, creating an ongoing supply of coins over time. This issuance model is part of Dogecoin's underlying monetary design and supports the continued operation of its mining network. Dogecoin can be stored and transferred through compatible cryptocurrency wallets and used across platforms and services that support DOGE transactions. Its open network, recognizable identity, and community-driven development have helped Dogecoin maintain an active role in the cryptocurrency market since its launch.
